Gendered families: states and societies in transition

Family life has changed significantly in recent decades for both women and men. Fertility rates have dropped, numbers divorcing increased, the proportion of children born outside marriage grown. At same time, we seen significant changes state forms institutions, with marketization becoming embedded centrally planned economies as well welfare states. Women increasingly participate labour markets higher education, expectations equal opportunity expanded. Despite obvious improvements female employment educational attainment, however, gender inequalities persist, not least law, policy, markets, family roles. continue to provide bulk informal multigenerational care. Work policies vary across globe, yet policy analysis from a perspective is scarce. This editorial considers research around world, including Europe, former Soviet bloc, Japan, China, develop an understanding tensions shifts gendered organisation lives. Changes continuities shaping are examined, focus on intersection state, market, family, they reproduce reshape norms inequalities.
